In 2022 I spent 10 days in Tasmania and it became one of my most memorable holidays. We rented a car, hit the road and stopped at breathtaking pit stops along the way from Hobart to Launceston. It was absolutely beautiful and I highly recommend visiting Tasmania. For those who want a bit of help planning their itinerary, here’s everything I did in 10 days.
Day 1:

- Visit Salamanca Markets (Saturday only, check here for more details)
- Walk around Battery Point
- Lunch at Jackman & McRoss to try scallop pies
- Visit Museum of Old and New Art (MONA, details here)
- Go grocery shopping
- Dinner at restaurant of your choice
- Visit Mount Wellington/Kunanyi for sunset (details here)
- Overnight at Hobart

- Overnight at Eaglehawk Neck
Day 3:
- Drive to Freycinet Marine Farm
- Try Blue Edge Bakery for more scallop pies (this was my favourite, more details here)

- Overnight at Wineglass Bay
Day 4:
- Drive to Melshell Oyster Shack
- Visit the Bay of Fires (The Gardens, Binalong Bay, Skeleton Bay)
- Relax on beach of choice
- Visit Lobster Shack for lunch
- Overnight at St Helens
Day 5:

- Relax at Floating Sauna Lake Derby (book in advance – this was another highlight of the trip, I booked a private session and I highly recommend it)
- Overnight in Ringarooma
Day 6:
- Drive to Bridestowe Lavendar Estate (we went during off season so the lavendars were already harvested, but if you’d like to see the grand field of purple I recommend visiting between December – early Feb)
- Drive to Cataract Gorge and explore (I recommend riding in the chairlift)
- Overnight at Tamar River
Day 7:
- Drive to Cradle Mountain (approx 2.5 hr drive)
- Park your car at the visitor centre and take the shuttle bus to Dove Lake (more info here and here)
- Walk the Dove Lake Circuit Walk (approx 6km)
- Return to accomodation
- Overnight at Mole Creek (however I’d recommend staying some place closer to Cradle Mountain)
Day 8:
- Return to Cradle Mountain
- Do Hansons Peak hike (approx 3-5 hours, gorgeous views)
- Return to car and drive to Devils@Cradle to see some Tasmanian Devils
- Return to accomodation at Mole Creek/Cradle Mountain
Day 9:
- Drive back to Launceston
- Drive to Jacobs Ladder (if you’re up for the challenging drive – 1 hr from Launceston)
- Rest day
- Overnight in Launceston
Day 10:
- Free time
- Depart from Tasmania
And that concludes the trip!
As for costings, the trip costed just a bit over $6000 for 2 people.
Hope this helps, and enjoy your upcoming trip!
